Kahoot for Microsoft
I designed the end-to-end flow for the integration of Kahoot, a game-based platform for learning and Microsoft PowerPoint, which enhances corporate learning experience.

Goal
Integrating Kahoot with Office 365 to increase productivity and employee satisfaction. But, which of these apps should Kahoot integrate with?
Final solution
Add Kahoot to powerpoint slides
Login to your Kahoot account by running Microsoft add-in on your current PowerPoint slide deck. You can import any of your past Kahoots from there.
Create Kahoot
Simply create a new multiple choice Kahoot by typing in the question, upload the image, and select a question type.
Create multiple choice questions
Creating Kahoot is easier than ever. Type in your all possible answers for the question and select the correct answer.
Present Kahoot with Powerpoint deck
Present Kahoot in the same way you present a PowerPoint deck. A join Kahoot code will be automatically generated for your audience on the screen. All to do is to hit “Play” button.
Design Process
Discovery
Our target users are corporate educators. Similar to teachers, educators need to create interesting presentation materials to teach employees new skills.
Research Findings
Design Opportunity
Two key findings connected the dots for me: users use PowerPoint to create presentations, and they like Kahoot for teaching games.
“It would be nice to be running your PowerPoint presentation that could link up to a Kahoot quiz.” - An corporate trainer interviewee.
Since users use both products extensively, an integration of the two could create a seamless transitions for users.
Mapping user flow
After identifying the sweet spot for the integration, I mapped out user flow which included two scenarios of how corporate educators would prepare Kahoot and PowerPoint slides together.
User Testing Results
I conducted A/B testing to understand which user flow that is most natural when running Kahoot on PowerPoint. Here is what we found out about our users:
Design Interations
Everything is front and center
Users felt neutral on the ribbon design even though they had to make selections at two different places. I decided to focus on the content and use slides as a centralized place for Kahoot.
Simplify overall Kahoot add-in experience
In order to create one cohesive experience for users, I simplified the add-in by only providing the two key functions: create Kahoot! and import existing Kahoots.
A complete redesign of Kahoot creation page
Based on user feedback, I completely redesigned Kahoot creation page on the right by giving users a sequence of the tasks that they need to complete on this page.
What I learned
Defining product direction
When introducing a new feature, it’s important to address the painpoints of what this feature can solve while also considering the product’s competitive landscape.
Balancing design for product integration
Given Microsoft and Kahoot both being our clients, I ensure that my designs are well balanced in order to create a cohesive user experience.
🚀 Development
After a little over a year since our initiative, Kahoot announced that they are launching a new interactive presentations feature which allows users to import slides from Microsoft PowerPoint! - Link here
